Types Of Kitchen Countertops

Different materials make countertops attractive and elegant. Here are some popular options for kitchen countertops.

Concrete

  • Cast-in-place – The builder creates and finishes the countertop on top of previously installed kitchen cabinets.
  • Custom precast – The builder makes templates onsite, recreates the pattern in a production facility, and installs it on top of cabinets when finished.
  • Pre-manufactured gauge slabs

It is easy to customize prefabricated concrete. You can incorporate a sink and drainboard into a concrete countertop.

Engineered Quartz

Engineered quartz is more scratch-resistant and less porous compared to natural quartz. It doesn’t need to be sealed and is also less prone to staining.

Natural Stone

Most countertops use natural stone. In the past, stone tops used a sealant to prevent staining and growth of bacteria. Advances in technology have created impregnators cutting down the frequency of sealing the stone countertop to once every five to 10 years. But it depends on the type of stone.

Wood

When working with wood countertops, you can choose a butcher’s block, joint planks, or a single, broad piece. Because wood is a renewable resource, using it as a countertop is considered an eco-friendly choice. It needs to be cleaned and disinfected thoroughly after being in contact with raw meat.

Cultured Marble

Cultured marble countertops look like authentic stone marble but are less expensive. The countertop allows manufacturers to add features to mimic stone marble.

Kitchen Countertop Installation Process

Kitchen countertops are mounted in a certain way to ensure quality and safety. It is essential to understand the process for each countertop material. Kitchen countertop installation is not an easy job, and it takes a professional to do it correctly.

  1. Our installers will begin by removing all drawers and contents in the base cabinets, followed by the old countertops. We will eliminate each section carefully. Doing so will prevent dust from gathering in the drawers and getting into your utensils or kitchenware.
  2. Next, we will remove all plumbing lines.
  3. The new countertops are brought in and placed over the cabinets.
  4. We will ensure there are allowances in your wall before placing the pieces, especially if your countertops go from wall to wall.
  5. Also, we will ensure that we will level all pieces throughout each section. And that there are no dips between any two pieces.
  6. We will glue the joints or seams together. If your countertop of choice is quartz, we will use a two-part epoxy with color. The installer makes sure that the joints are smooth.
  7. At this point, we will glue the countertops down using a clear silicone adhesive.
  8. The faucet holes will have cores.
  9. The next step includes gluing the sink onto the countertop.
  10. The installer will check the joints or seams for any issues.

At this point, the installer will clean the work area and ask you to inspect the countertops. If you have no issues, then installing your countertop is done. All that’s left to do is admire its beauty and think of all the wonderful recipes you can try out in your new kitchen.
